The Government today introduced the Hurunui/Kaikōura Earthquakes Emergency Relief Bill and the Civil Defence Emergency Management Amendment Act 2016 Amendment Bill to Parliament.
The Government has also indicated a third Bill, the Hurunui/Kaikoura Earthquake Recovery Bill, will be introduced to the House on Thursday.
Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu welcomes the introduction of these Bills to support the recovery of the Hurunui and Kaikōura regions.
Tā Mark Solomon says we recognise the need to have extraordinary powers following the devastating earthquakes and support the approach the Government is taking.
“We look forward to working with the Government throughout the recovery process as a key strategic partner,” says Tā Mark.
“Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu will look to make submissions on the Bills where appropriate as part of our normal processes,” say Tā Mark.
