E ngā urī o Tahu Pōtiki, nāia a Haumihi.
At its hui on the 18th of February 2017, at Te Koawa Tūroa o Tākitimu, Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu resolved to pause the election process for the Kaiwhakahaere. The decision to pause this process was not taken lightly, but it was considered appropriate to allow time for Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu to carry out a review of the Kaiwhakahaere role. This review is considered necessary to ensure the role of the Kaiwhakahaere is fit for purpose and to give those intending to stand for Kaiwhakahaere a clear understanding of the role.
A committee has been established to review the roles of the Kaiwhakahaere and Deputy Kaiwhakahaere. The committee will help lead a discussion at Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu about the role of the Kaiwhakahaere and Deputy Kaiwhakahaere. Once Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu has confirmed these role descriptions, the process for the election of the Kaiwhakahaere will start again, with a clear timetable communicated out to whānau and Papatipu Rūnanga.
We look forward to communicating with you soon on the new timetable for the election process for the Kaiwhakahaere.
Kia ora mai rā me ngā mihi nui o te wā.
