Following the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes, Aurecon and Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu joined forces to offer a number of technical cadetships that allow Ngāi Tahu individuals to become professional drafts people and technicians.
The programme is based in Christchurch and offers an ‘earn-while-you-learn’ approach including employment, relevant training, Ara qualifications, paid course fees and support.
Beyond this, Ngāi Tahu will also offer support to help you develop your cultural identity, including attendance on Noho Marae, Aoraki Bound, Hui-ā-Iwi, tribal induction, and more.
As an employee of Aurecon, you will be based in the Aurecon Christchurch Office. There are one or two cadetships on offer each year, open for young Ngāi Tahu who are keen to learn, display a positive attitude, are passionate about the industry and want to be part of a team helping to rebuild Christchurch.
“When I first applied for the cadetship between Ngāi Tahu and Aurecon, I had just finished high school and was not sure on what I wanted to do moving forward. The cadetship has given me the perfect opportunity to find a career that suits my skillset. Moving to Christchurch was intimidating at first as I did not have many connections here, however Ngāi Tahu has been supportive and helped me gain roots in Christchurch and reconnect with my iwi.”
