The key role and function of the Tahua Taunaki Akonga – Learner Support programme, is to provide funding to enable whānau to access personalised tuition to support their tamariki (children) and further their progress at school.
Tahua Taunaki Akonga (formerly Out-of-School Tuition) was initiated by the Ngāi Tahu Trust Board in 1994. The initial incarnation of the programme provided after-school maths tuition and was operated in Christchurch and Dunedin. By 1996, the project was expanded to include reading.
For your child to be eligible for tuition funding, they must be:
* Must be enrolled at a New Zealand Primary or Secondary school, OR be in a Ministry of Education approved New Zealand Home School Programme OR be enrolled through the Correspondence school and be a resident in New Zealand.
Each tamaiti/rangatahi is limited to $450 in any financial year (approximately one term/ 10 tuition sessions).
For funding in Term 2, 2018, download the Tahua Taunaki Akonga application form.
Application forms for Terms 3 and 4, 2018, will be available in June.
