Looking for a unique opportunity to apply your accounting expertise while contributing to the long‑term prosperity of Ngāi Tahu whānui? We’re searching for a dedicated Financial Accountant (Fixed Term) to support our Group Finance team at Ngāi Tahu Holdings.
This role plays a crucial part in the annual statutory reporting cycle for both Ngāi Tahu Holdings (IFRS) and Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu (PBE Standards). You’ll help prepare audit‑ready workpapers, annual financial statements, and provide high‑quality accounting support across our commercial group. This fixed term position covers a kaimahi on sabbatical during the 30 June year‑end period.
Key Responsibilities – Ngā Kawenga Takohanga
- Assist in preparing annual statutory financial reports for subsidiaries (30 June balance date).
- Prepare detailed audit workpapers and supporting documentation for external auditors.
- Support completion of all external audit requirements.
- Review subsidiary trial balances to ensure accurate classification and Group mapping.
- Assist with technical accounting assessments including impairment, fair value, revenue recognition and PBE standard considerations.
- Support treasury functions including preparation of agendas, follow‑up actions, and monthly data for the treasury committee.
- Assist with bank covenant reporting.
- Provide ad hoc support to the wider Group Finance team as required.
- Identify and support process improvement opportunities within the accounting function.
- Contribute to reporting efficiency initiatives using Group systems and templates.
- Uphold Ngāi Tahu values and contribute positively to a culturally supportive workplace.
Qualifications – Ngā Tohu Mātauranga
- A tertiary qualification in accounting or related discipline.
- CA/CAANZ qualification (or working towards) is preferred but not essential.
Experience – Ngā Pūkenga
- At least 2–3 years’ experience in a corporate or professional services environment.
- Experience preparing statutory financial statements using Group templates.
- Experience working directly with external auditors.
- High proficiency in MS Excel.
- Experience with ERP systems; Business Central/Navision is an advantage.
- Demonstrated experience preparing year‑end audit workpapers.
- Understanding of IFRS and/or PBE accounting standards.
