Plant Supervisor – Live Seafood Processing
Permanent, Full-time | Bluff (Motupōhue)
Kia hiwa rā!
Are you an experienced supervisor who thrives in a hands-on environment, enjoys leading from the floor, and wants to be part of something bigger than just a job?
Ngāi Tahu Seafood is seeking a Plant Supervisor to join our Bluff live seafood operation. This is a key leadership role where you’ll help guide day-to-day processing, support kaimahi, and ensure our operations remain safe, compliant, and high-performing — all while contributing to the long-term sustainability of Ngāi Tahu fisheries assets.
This role is ideal for someone practical, organised, and confident making decisions in a fast-paced, live product environment.
He aha te painga mōu? – Why you’ll want this role
• Permanent, full-time employment based in Bluff
• Hands-on supervisory role with real operational responsibility
• Supportive Plant Manager and experienced leadership team
• Opportunity to grow your leadership, compliance, and technical capability
• Work with premium live seafood in a niche export and domestic operation
• A workplace grounded in values such as kaitiakitanga, manaakitanga, and whakapapa
• Be part of mahi that matters — mō tātou, ā, mō kā uri a muri ake nei
Ngā mahi – The Opportunity
As Plant Supervisor, you’ll work closely with the Plant Manager to oversee live seafood processing, export, and domestic sales activities during your assigned shifts.
You’ll be the visible leader on site — coordinating kaimahi, ensuring compliance with AMD and RMP requirements, responding to operational issues, and keeping things running smoothly. This is a working supervisor role, so you’ll be comfortable rolling your sleeves up while also leading, mentoring, and supporting your team.
You’ll play a key role in:
- Supervising daily plant operations and shift activity
- Ensuring food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance
- Supporting training, coaching, and performance of kaimahi
- Promoting a strong health, safety, and wellbeing culture
- Modelling Ngāi Tahu values and contributing to a positive team environment
Mōu – What you’ll bring
We’re looking for someone who can confidently lead people and processes in a live processing environment.
Ideally, you’ll have:
- Experience supervising staff in a processing or food production environment (live seafood preferred)
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide teams under time pressure
- Sound knowledge of food safety and compliance requirements
- Unit Standards in Food Safety Processing and Hygiene, Seafood Quality, Fisheries Compliance, H&S Management, and Saltwater Reticulated Systems (or equivalent experience)
- Excellent organisation, time management, and attention to detail
- A collaborative leadership style and willingness to learn and grow
An understanding of, or genuine interest in developing knowledge of, Ngāi Tahu values, tikanga, and te reo Māori is highly valued.
