Te Ahikōmau A Hamoterangi – performing for whānau at Te Matatini 2015
Waipounamu Te Karu was excited to see all her whānau out in the crowd as she performed with Te Ahikōmau A Hamoterangi at Te Matatini 2015 yesterday.
“It was so exhilarating, so exciting to see all my whānau for the first time out in the crowd being able to watch us, because they usually aren’t able to come to Te Ika a Maui, the North Island to watch. And having all those faces look back at me while we’re on that stage – not just me, but the whole team is just unbelievable. It’s just an exhilarating feeling.”
Waipounamu, (Ngāi Tahu – Te Ngāi Tūāhuriri, Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa, Tūhoe, Tainui), also known as Pou, is the poster girl for the Tahu FM and Go Media Te Matatini 2015 billboard and bus campaign in Ōtautahi. She also kept Tahu FM listeners guessing her whereabouts as she popped up around the city in full uniform as part of the ‘Where’s Pou?’ ticket giveaway campaign.
Right now Pou is enjoying the festival and working as an anchor for Tahu FM – the official iwi broadcaster for Te Matatini 2015.
Te Matatini 2015 finalists are expected to be announced at 7:30pm on Saturday 7 March, day three of the four day festival.
