Getting prepared

Work and Income

When applying to Work & Income for the Wage Subsidy or Essential Workers Leave Payment you will need to provide information about your business, it’s best to have the information prepared prior to applying to save any hold ups.

If you have people working for you

  • business IRD number (this could include your partnership IRD number or company IRD number)
  • IR customer name (this is the name that’s linked to your business IRD number)
  • New Zealand Business Number (NZBN) if you have one
  • business address
  • contact name, email address and mobile number
  • bank account number
  • employee details (include full-time and part-time employees in the same application):
    • name
    • date of birth
    • IRD number
    • employment type (whether they’re working less than 20 hours, or 20 hours or more).

You don’t have people working for you – This means you’re only applying for yourself.

  • business IRD number (this is your personal IRD number)
  • employment type (whether you’re working less than 20 hours, or 20 hours or more)
  • IR customer name (this is your name, not your trade name)
  • business address
  • contact name, email address and mobile number
  • bank account number

Banks

When you are applying to your bank for business finance support you will need to provide information about your business, each bank will have their own list of information you will need to provide, the following are some examples to help you get prepared:

  • 12 months of reconciled business financial data
    • Income statement
    • Profit and loss balance sheet
    • Reconciled transaction history from your business trading account
  • A copy of your IRD tax summary
  • A cashflow forecast detailing income and essential expenditure
  • A personal statement of position
  • Personal income verification if applicable (e.g. IR3 or payslip)

A 0800 4POUTAMA (0800 4768 8262) Covid-19 Māori Business support line for Māori businesses has been launched to give you direct access to specialist advisors who can provide the support you require as business owners and employers during these difficult times.

NZ Māori Tourism, FOMA, POUTAMA, and Māori Women’s Development Inc. have united to fully utilize our collective resources, expertise, and networks to support you as Covid-19 continues to impact on us all.

The 0800 line will be open from 8am – 8pm Monday to Friday. This service is available to all Māori businesses adversely affected by Covid-19.
