An exciting new opporturtunity called Ārai-Te-Uru ki Uta, Ārai-Te-Tai ki Tai is now available for Ngāi Tahu rangatahi. The programme has been designed to give rangatahi an opportunity to explore their Ngāi Tahu identity and takiwā.

This is a great oppourtunity for our rangatahi to build connections, learn about the rohe of Kāti Huirapa ki Puketeraki alongside Brendan Flack and others.
The haerenga covers Kāti Huirapa ki Puketeraki sites of significance as well as Maunga (Hikaroroa), Awa (Waikouaiti) and Waka (Āraiteuru).

Mā wai? – Who is this for?

We are looking for Rangatahi who:

  • Are registered members of Ngāi Tahu
  • Are 14 – 17 years of age
  • Have a passion for learning about our natural landscape by living and breathing the outdoors.
  • Can organise transport to and from Karitane (Puketeraki) or Dunedin (Transport will be available from Dunedin airport).

Ki hea? Mā hea? Where is it and how do I get there?

  • Pick-up details will be confirmed with the participants. Pick up location at Dunedin Airport on 20 April, 2020. Please note that arrival times will need to be prior to 4:00pm (powhiri at Puketeraki at 4:30pm)
  • Ārai-te-uru ki Uta, Ārai-te-uru ki Tai will be based in the Karitane area

The costs for this hīkoi are covered by the Ngāi Tahu Fund, with travel to and from Dunedin or Karitane the responsibility of participants/whānau.
