Due to the impacts of COVID-19 we are not accepting applications for the Pūtea Whai Tohu Journalist Scholarship. This programme is not taking place in 2021. All existing applications will be responded to via email.

Pūtea Whai Tohu is an exciting new opportunity for Ngāi Tahu whānau members to study to be a Journalist.

Pūtea Whai Tohu is a full programme of support and includes benefits such as

  • Fees to support your tertiary studies for a maximum of 3 years
  • Paid holiday work in the Office of Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu

Journalist Scholarship

The Office of Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu has created an exciting new scholarship for Ngāi Tahu whānui.

This is an entry level scholarship for students studying the Bachelor of Broadcasting Communications at the New Zealand Broadcasting School, at the Ara Institute of Canterbury. It is funded by Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu.

Key information

We welcome applications from those who:

  • Are a registered member of Ngāi Tahu
  • Have been accepted into the Bachelor of Broadcasting Communications at NZBS, Ara Institute of Canterbury
  • Are able to commit to a programme of full-time study and work experience
  • Can provide a letter of support from a kaumātua
  • Have an understanding of the history of Ngāi Tahu
