Ngāi Tahu Scholarships and Internships 2024

We are now taking expressions of interest (EOI) for the Ngāi Tahu 2024 Scholarships, Internships and Entry Level opportunities.  These are aimed at encouraging and supporting Ngāi Tahu whānau to be culturally confident, well connected to their Ngāi Tahu community and outstanding professionals in their chosen field.

We are looking for motivated and driven students studying a variety of disciplines, in particular those listed in the opportunities below.  We need students who understand the importance of ensuring the growth and capability of our  iwi now and into the future.

What's on offer in 2024?

Matakahi Scholarship (15)
  • Two years of personal, professional and cultural development opportunities
  • Guaranteed summer internship within Ngāi Tahu Commercial Businesses and/or external Business Partners
  • Financial support for fees
  • Open to those whānau in their second year of study or above (at time of application)
  • Disciplines include: Commerce, Business, Finance, Agriculture, Law, Environmental Sciences/Management, Information Technology, Engineering, Architecture, Computer Science
Pūmanawa Scholarship (1)
  • Two years of personal, professional and cultural development opportunities
  • Guaranteed summer internship with Ngāi Tahu Property
  • Financial support for fees
  • Open to those whānau in their second year of study or above (at time of application)
  • Disciplines include:  Land and Property Management, Business, Finance
Beca Scholarship (1-3)
  • One year of personal, professional and cultural development opportunities
  • Guaranteed summer internship with BECA
  • Financial payment direct to recipient
  • Open to whānau  in their penultimate year of study (at time of application)
  • Disciplines include:  Environmental, Engineering, Surveying, Computer Science, Resource Management, Planning
Te Pia Tāpoi Tourism Scholarship (1-2)  
  • Financial support for fees
  • Two years of personal, professional and cultural development opportunities
  • Guaranteed summer internship within Ngāi Tahu Tourism Businesses i.e. Queenstown, Franz Joseph, Rotorua – accommodation may be provided depending on location
  • Open to those whānau in their second year of study or above (at time of application)
  • Disciplines include: NZQA / Degree approved qualifications in Tourism and or Management
Mercer Scholarship (1-2)
  • One year of personal, professional and cultural development opportunities
  • Guaranteed summer internship with Mercer
  • Financial payment direct to recipient
  • Open to whānau  in their penultimate year of study (at time of application)
  • Disciplines include:  Business, Commerce, Law
