Save the date: Hui-ā-Iwi 2026

Venue: Selwyn Sports Centre, Rolleston

Hui-ā-Iwi is the highlight of our iwi calendar, bringing whānau together every two years to celebrate our identity and culture, reconnect with one another, and help shape the future of our iwi.

Alongside a full programme of cultural, educational and community activities, it is an opportunity to hear directly from tribal leadership, receive updates on matters important to Ngāi Tahu, ask questions, share perspectives and contribute to iwi-wide conversations. 

This year’s theme is:

Taumutu Ara Rau, Waihora Hua Nui

It speaks to the many pathways that bring people together at Taumutu and the generations of abundance of Te Waihora, a source of life and sustenance for our tīpuna. The theme reflects the many threads of Ngāi Tahu whakapapa that have converged at Taumutu throughout the years, and the opportunity to weave those threads more closely together at Hui-ā-Iwi. It also recognises the ongoing journey for our people, our taiao and our tomorrow, with renewed connection and shared purpose. 

Hosted by Te Taumutu Rūnanga, Hui-ā-Iwi 2026 will be an opportunity to honour those connections while bringing whānau together to connect, learn, celebrate and help shape the future of our iwi.

More information, including registrations, logistics and the full programme, will follow. We will also be seeking expressions of interest from whānau-owned businesses and community organisations interested in hosting a stall or workshop during the event.
