Te Arotahi Matua – The Role

We’re looking for a passionate Chef Assistant to join our Dark Sky Project team. In this hands-on role, you’ll help prepare and produce high-quality menu items under the guidance of our Head Chef. You’ll play a key part in creating memorable dining experiences that reflect our values and commitment to manaakitanga.

Kā Haepapa – Key Responsibilities

  • Support meal preparation and cooking during service periods
  • Maintain food safety and hygiene standards
  • Assist with ingredient prep, dish assembly, and kitchen cleanliness
  • Provide friendly customer service and support front-of-house when needed
  • Promote sustainability and uphold the Tiaki Promise
  • Participate in cultural development and embrace Ngāi Tahu values

Kā Pūkeka – What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum one year experience in a professional kitchen
  • NZ Certificate in Cookery (Level 3 or higher) – desirable
  • Food Safety Certificate – desirable
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Commitment to manaakitanga and cultural learning
  • Physical stamina and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
