2024 Waitangi Day Address by Dr Michael Stevens at Te Rau Aroha Marae

Dr Michael Stevens, Awarua Rūnaka Representative, delivered the 2024 Waitangi Day address at Te Rau Aroha Marae on 6 February 2024.

In this address, Dr Stevens reflects on the societal context in which Te Tiriti o Waitangi came about and how it was influenced by the Humanitarian movement of the time. He also discusses the ongoing relevance of the principles of the Treaty and some of the difficulties associated with the use of the term partnership within the five Lands judgements.
