Crown Engagement

The Crown has undertaken a substantial reform programme over the past five years. During this time, there has been an increasing need for the Crown to engage with mana whenua.

The Representatives of Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu have approved two documents that set out the Ngāi Tahu expectations for Crown Engagement:

These documents provide clear guidelines for when the Crown, including Ministers, departments, agencies, and boards engage with Ngāi Tahu. They describe what partnership looks like in the Ngāi Tahu context; outline the contemporary Ngāi Tahu / Crown relationship and describe what Ngāi Tahu rangatiratanga is. They also provide examples of good engagement and include a map of the Ngāi Tahu takiwā.
