Description

  • Be part of meaningful taiao mahi that protects, restores, and celebrates the mauri of our whenua, wai, and natural environment.
  • Work alongside whānau, runaka, councils, environmental agencies, and community partners to turn shared aspirations into practical action.
  • Champion kaitiakitaka and help bring runaka taiao values to life through strong relationships, hands-on projects, and positive environmental outcomes.

Are you passionate about the taiao and ready to make a real difference? We are looking for an enthusiastic Environmental Officer to join the team on a fixed-term basis for one year.

This is an exciting opportunity to support the runaka, whānau, local environmental entities, councils, and the wider community to protect, restore, and enhance the whenua, wai, and taiao within the runaka takiwa.

No two days will be the same. You will provide practical, technical, and administrative support across a range of environmental projects as these opportunities arise eg. restoration planting, monitoring, pest and weed control, and mahika kai enhancement through to wetland and biodiversity projects, environmental reporting, and community working bees.

We are keen to hear from someone who brings energy, initiative, and a strong commitment to kaitiakitaka and runaka taiao values. You will be a confident relationship builder who communicates clearly with whānau, agencies, and community partners, and you will be well organised, adaptable, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.

Experience in environmental, conservation, resource management, planning, or community project work would be a great advantage. Knowledge of te reo Māori, tikaka, environmental legislation, GIS, monitoring tools, or existing relationships with local councils, DOC, or other environmental agencies would also be valuable.

If you enjoy working with people, getting involved in hands-on taiao projects, and contributing to long-term positive outcomes for the whenua, wai, mahika kai, and wider environment, we would love to hear from you.
