Oranga - Health and wellbeing
Oranga is a “team of teams” dedicated to the wellbeing of Ngāi Tahu whānau.
For Ngāi Tahu, Oranga (wellbeing) is grounded on knowing yourself as Ngāi Tahu.
Underpinning the Oranga teams are Whakapapa, Archives and Kotahi Mano Kāika. These teams are dedicated to Ngāi Tahutanga and the foundations of identity through whakapapa, Ngāi Tahu histories and te reo Kāi Tahu (Ngāi Tahu language).
The physical wellbeing of our whānau is the focus of the other Oranga teams.
Whānau and Emergency Response works to ensure our marae, hapori (communities) and whānau are prepared for emergency situations and they respond when our whānau are impacted by emergencies.
Te Whirinaki is a team that focusses on wider wellbeing by providing support for education and housing. Te Whirinaki works alongside the Ngāi Tahu Grants team to ensure Pēpi Packs, School Starter Packs and Pūtea Manaaki grants are available for whānau.
