Supporting Ngāi Tahu in Business

Our kaupapa at Puna Pakihi is to support you, Ngāi Tahu whānau on your business journey.  We offer guidance and mentorship as you refine your business plan and help you identify next steps for growth and sustainability.  Whether you have a solid idea for a startup or you have launched your business and want to establish it on a firmer footing for growth (or you’re somewhere in between), we are here.  We care about your pakihi journey and your success. You have some mahi to do whānau and we are behind you every step of the way!

2023 Grant Information

There will be 2 more intakes for Puna Pakihi 2023 Grants:

October intake - applications need to be received by 20th October 2023
November intake - applications need to be received by 20th November 2023

Applications for Puna Pakihi 2024 intake need to be received by 20th February 2024.

What We Offer:

  • Business mentoring.
  • Business development resources.
    • Lean Canvas Template – a tool to help you flesh out your business idea.
    • Robust Business Plan Template – a comprehensive business plan template. A business plan is required for all our grant applications.
    • Financial Forecasting Template – a cashflow forecast showing your revenue less expenses to show the previous 12 months or next 12 months. This is required for all our grant applications.

  • Business mentoring.
  • Business development resources.
  • Kickstart Grant – $5000 grant to support your first year in business. (Please note that grant applications for 2024 close on 20 October. Applications for business grants will reopen in 2025.)
  • Free listing on the Ngāi Tahu whānau pakihi directory.
  • Referrals to other organisations and specialist support services.
  • Access to promotion through Ngāi Tahu communications channels (with your permission).

What We Offer:

  • Business Mentoring.
  • Stay Up Grants – $5000 to support you through your stay up phase. (Please note that grant applications for 2024 close on 20 October. Applications for grants will reopen in 2025.)
  • Free listing on the Ngāi Tahu whānau pakihi directory.
  • Referrals to other organisations and specialist support services.
  • Access to promotion through Ngāi Tahu communications channels (with your permission).

Why do I need a business plan for my grant application?

The anchor for any pakihi is a business plan. It’s your road map to help you establish and achieve your goals. It is a living document that sets out and keeps you accountable to specific and measurable actions.

What date do I have to have my grant application in by?

Please note that business grant applications for 2024 close on 20 October. Applications for business grants will reopen in 2025.

Can I submit a joint application if two or more Ngāi Tahu whānau make up 50% ownership?

We accept applications if all applicants meet the criteria (Ngāi Tahu registered, ID provided, etc.).
