About the role

This internship reports to the Environmental Manager - South Island Renewables. You will gain experience with the Environment and Community Team (based in Ōtautahi / Christchurch) with a focus on hydro generation in Te Manahuna / Mackenzie, including exposure to environmental management practices, and relationships with mana whenua, stakeholders and communities.  You will be contributing to workstreams and projects relating to environmental and community management and will receive strong support and mentorship from the team, with opportunities to travel to Genesis' Tekapo Power Scheme and corporate offices. 

About you

  • Ideally you have enrolled in a relevant BSc or Environmental Planning degree however other relevant tertiary courses will be considered. 
  • A preference will be given to 3rd year + students with an interest in Environmental Management or Planning. 
  • Previous workplace experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Great communication skills, both written and verbal are essential.
  • You'll be keen to learn with a positive attitude and willingness to contribute.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook).  

This internship is open to candidates who whakapapa to Ngāi Tahu, with a preference given to candidates with connections to Arowhenua, Waihao and Moeraki Rūnaka.    

During your time with us you will gain insights into the Tekapo Power Scheme's role in Aotearoa's electricity security, how environmental management and relationships are at the core of how we do things, and how Genesis is helping to shape Aotearoa's energy future.
